Thumbnails: Why It is Important

I started looking around for a better answer to why thumbnails were a necessity for YouTube but every social media influencer channel on YouTube was so vague. You keep hearing “You need a thumbnail. It will help you.” How will it help me? Just do it! Alrighty then!

Yeah, that’s how most conversation sounds like and it always leads to “Go watch this video.” No thanks. I’ll just try it out myself to find the answer I am looking for. So, I did! I found out the answer that I was looking for and here it is. Let me explain it to you in a simple manner.

Visual Art

That’s right! We have to look at YouTube as a walking billboard and your videos are the pitch. When you have a great thumbnail, it attracts people to click. Imagine going through a bookstore and you’re looking for a book to read. You’ll always reach for the book with the best cover regardless of what is written inside. It is always about the outer beauty and the content comes after.

YouTube studio has an option for you to create a custom thumbnail but I like creating thumbnails in different forms of art that YouTube’s option do not have to offer. I am going to list a few sites that you can use to create your thumbnails for free!

Thumbnails and Blogs

Your blogs have the same concept as your YouTube channel. If you have a good thumbnail, your shared post will get more views. People sometimes dismiss the headline and they automatically click your article because your thumbnail was so attractive, they cannot help themselves. This happens a lot when someone is up all night looking for something to read. I am speaking from experience haha.

You can use those websites that I posted in the last section towards your blog as well. It also has options to create artwork for your social media too because everything is becoming visual. The new audience aims for visual because reading takes too long or they lose interest very quickly. You want to make sure your posts are full of something visual to keep the attention there. Know your audience.
